Web Time Machine — Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 29, 2026
Web Time Machine ("the app") lets you record, search, and sync your own browsing history.
It is built so your data stays scoped to your account. This policy explains what is
collected and how it is used.
What we collect
-
Account: your email address and a password (stored only as a salted PBKDF2 hash —
never in plain text).
-
Captured pages: for pages you visit while the browser extension is installed and you
are logged in — the URL, page title, visit timestamp, and the page's readable text
(extracted on your device with Mozilla Readability). Form fields, passwords, and content
behind logins are not specifically targeted; only the rendered readable text is captured.
-
Devices ("nodes"): a name and platform label for each device you sync from.
How it's used
- To sync your captured history across your own devices.
- To provide full-text search over your captured pages.
-
To generate a one-line summary per page. The readable text is sent to
Cloudflare Workers AI for this purpose and is not used to train models.
Where it's stored
Data is stored on Cloudflare infrastructure (D1 for metadata and the search index,
R2 for page text) under the operator's account. We do not sell your data or share it with
advertisers. We do not share it with third parties except the infrastructure providers
(Cloudflare) needed to run the service.
Capture is passive and in your control
- Nothing is captured or sent until you install an extension and log in.
- You can turn capture off at any time from the extension popup.
- The extensions only read page content; they do not modify pages or inject ads.
Retention & deletion
- History automatically expires on a retention schedule (default 365 days).
-
You can delete any page from the dashboard or extension; deletions propagate to all your
devices and the page's stored text is purged.
- To delete your entire account and all associated data, contact us (below).
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and should not be used by them.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the date above.
